A Franklin-based development firm today announced its newest project, a nearly 600-acre, 68-home community, called Wyelea.
West Harpeth Partners plans to begin infrastructure development on the property, which sits in Franklin near the intersection of Mack Hatcher Parkway and Del Rio Pike, next year. The company will build out the communal amenities and infrastructure.
Future residents will buy prepared lots and work with Wyelea Design Guild — a collection of architects and builders — to design their home. West Harpeth Partners will also offer a limited number of custom home designs.
“Over the years, we’ve studied destinations, architecture and experiences around the world which have helped us cultivate a refined and timeless vision for Wyelea,” Trevor Cross, president of West Harpeth Partners, said in a press release. “We’ve been methodical in reaching this point to ensure Wyelea is rooted in nature and our values. The collection of the talent working on this project is truly unique and demonstrate our commitment to developing the highest quality asset possible."
The 68 home sites will range from 10 acres to less than one.
The community will feature multiple amenities including:
West Harpeth Partners acquired the 570-acre parcel of land for $28.13 million in 2021, according to Williamson County deeds.
Of that land, 200 acres have been placed in a conservation easement with the Land Trust For Tennessee, and more than half of the entire property will be preserved as open space.
“It was not our intent to develop the property, but the idea of a low-impact community with equestrian facilities really spoke to us,” Orrin Ingram, the property’s previous owner and CEO of Ingram Industries, said in a press release. “Our family has championed land conservation for many years, so the opportunity to place a substantial portion of the land into a conservation easement was important to us. We couldn’t be happier with the plan that the development team has brought forth.”
West Harpeth Partners is working with Pfeffer Torode Architecture and Daniel Communities, an Alabama-based development firm that has designed resorts and communities around the country.
The company has also engaged Charlotte, North Carolina-based LandDesign to lead land planning and landscape architecture, and the local office of Benesch as the civil engineer.

Franklin Alderman Matt Brown has asked for a vote to censure mayoral candidate and current Alderman Gabrielle Hanson at the next board meeting, on Nov. 14, or by special session.
"We can't let this kind of hate take hold of Franklin," Brown said during Tuesday's regular city meeting, referencing the presence of Tennessee Active Club members at an Oct. 2 forum. The club has been identified as a white nationalist hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center and members have openly voiced their support of Hanson.
Brown's comments came after the board issued a public statement earlier this month in response to the group's presence at the forum, saying it wouldn't "tolerate any form of hatred, intimidation, or violence directed at our residents, media representatives, or anyone else attending or participating in the democratic process."
Days earlier, board members had decided not to censure Hanson. At the time, Alderman Beverly Burger said the voters should decide. On Tuesday, Burger said if the election hadn't been so close, they would have censured Hanson.
"Is it your mission to divide our city? Because you're doing a bang up job," Burger said.
Hanson forfeited her aldermanic seat to run against incumbent Mayor Ken Moore in the city's Oct. 24 election.
And controversy has followed her almost from the start. In response to unfounded claims she made about a motive in the Nashville Covenant School shooting, at least 25 emailed complaints were filed against Hanson in Franklin, seeking her resignation from the board.
In June, she came under fire after sending an email to Nashville International Airport CEO Doug Kreulen criticizing the airport's donation to a Juneteenth celebration in Franklin. In her letter, Hanson said the organization the airport was supporting believes in "radical social justice platforms" and was competing with another longstanding Juneteenth celebration.
Then, in September, Hanson admitted in an Instagram post to being arrested on a charge of promoting prostitution in Dallas in the mid-1990s.
Things came to a head during the Oct. 2 candidate forum.
In a since deleted Instagram story, Hanson said a NewsChannel 5 report claiming that she hired members of Tennessee Active Club as security for the forum was false. Members of the club also posted on social media, saying Hanson didn't hire them.
Hanson said she is not, nor has she ever been associated with any white supremacy or Nazi-affiliated group. But her connection to Tennessee Active Club has come up before. She's the broker for Lewis Country Store in Nashville, which came under fire this summer after it was revealed that members of the group were using a gym on the store's upper level for club activities.
During Tuesday's meeting, Hanson seemed to defend the group when she was asked about them by a resident during public comments.
"I don't denounce any of my clients. I have a black client, a lesbian client, a Muslim client. I have Brad Lewis (owner of the aforementioned Lewis Country Store) as a client. I'm a realtor. I'm not going to denounce anybody their right to be whatever it is that they want to be, whether I agree with what they do in their personal life or not," she said, noting that the Tennessee Active Group came to support her at the forum after they became concerned about what they saw on the dark web, or part of the Internet not visible to search engines that requires the use of a specialized browser.
"I said, 'please to do not make a scene if you're going to come,'" Hanson said. "If they want to support you in your re-election, if they want to support me, that is their right, and we don't discriminate in this community against anyone."
As her fellow aldermen continued to denounce the recent controversies surrounding Hanson, she seemed, at times, to agree with them.
"Of course the citizens of Franklin don't deserve this," Hanson said. "But this is the old adage of you reap what you sow. You've planted seeds for years and years against our citizens, and they're coming to harvest."
Election Day in Franklin is Oct. 24. Early voting runs through Oct. 19 at the election commission office, 405 Downs Boulevard.

What is your vision of a successful Franklin and how do your principles and track record indicate that you’ll go about pursuing that vision?
My vision of a successful Franklin is a community that is a destination for people to live, work, worship, and raise their family. During my term as Mayor, we have received multiple recognitions by national publications and organizations. We have been recognized as an All-American City, Healthy City Designation, Top Workplace, and People’s Choice Award, and multiple Budget awards to name a few. We are a Aaa rated city. Other communities follow what we are doing as an example and other cities benchmark on our work.
As a community leader, what policy, resolution, or project that you worked on for the City of Franklin are you most proud of? I am proud that I started the city’s sustainability initiative and the money that it has saved the city. The new campus of Columbia State has a special place in my heart for the work we did to find a site to locate it and got it funded in cooperation with Charles Sargent. Getting Mack Hatcher NW completed and many other road projects. I was honored to be part of our Integrated Water Resource Plan group that developed our vision for water and wastewater for the next twenty-five years and we are implementing it currently. None of this would be possible without a supportive staff and cooperative board.
As things become more divided politically on a national level, how do you plan to lead the city in way that brings people together for the good of Franklin?
A group that I co-founded with Dr. Kenneth Hill addresses bringing people together and is called Unite Williamson. I work to be inclusive with all citizens of Franklin and always happy to meet with people and learn about them.
What is your policy of healthy growth for Franklin in terms of land use and population?
I would describe my policy as managed growth by utilizing our growth plan (Envision Franklin) which is developed with citizen input coupled with our transportation plan, Connect Franklin. The main driver after these is the availability of infrastructure. We are able to identify which areas are most suitable and ready for development through basin studies. Lastly, ranking and funding our capital projects for a ten-year period.
What do you feel are the three most pertinent issues facing Franklin that would most like to address? Workforce housing is a big need since so many of our workforce come from outside our city. Transportation needs will only increase in the future, and we must focus on better community design and additional multi-modal options that include trails, sidewalks, and technology. Lastly, we need to continue to grow our workforce since we have more jobs than we do people to do them.

Despite its prime location in historic downtown Franklin, the Carters Court shopping center has struggled to maintain its once bustling energy over the years. Now, Warner Partners, the property owner, is looking to breathe some life back into the complex as it welcomes Fainting Goat Coffee into the former Franklin Glassblowing Studio space.
“We see Carters Court being a place to bring people together as well as having a great sense of community,” said Ed Warner, general partner at Warner.
The area was developed by Calvin Lehew in the 1970s and has hosted a variety of businesses ranging from restaurants, to shops, to small office spaces. While it was once a popular local spot, time and two building fires have seen the space fall quiet.
Now, with the help of Warner Partners, Carters Court is moving forward — finally renovating the glassblowing studio that has sat empty since a fire forced the owners to leave in 2016.
“[Warner Partners] knew that this was going to be their big project to begin with because they want to revitalize the whole area and make it really a fun place to come and hang out,” said Fainting Goat owner Susana Allen.
Allen and her husband, Alex, opened Fainting Goat Coffee in Spring Hill six years ago with a mission to make good coffee accessible and enjoyable in a versatile space. Now the couple is excited to bring their vision 12 miles up Highway 31 from their original location.
“We’ve always wanted to grow,” said Susana Allen. “We are a family-owned business, and we have amazing employees so… we’re just excited to share that with Franklin.”
While the new location will offer the same no-frills, high-quality coffee experience that Spring Hill customers are used to, the space in Carter’s Court holds unique opportunities. Not only does the two-story building offer more space with plentiful outdoor seating both on the front deck and rooftop terrace, but the full renovation gives the Allens a chance to set up the space exactly how they want.
“A lot of the essence of what we are in Spring Hill is going to come with us, but we want to introduce some surprises and changes, something different for the community,” said Alex Allen.
The space is still under construction, but the Allens plan to have several different types of seating options to accommodate any type of coffeeshop-goer, plus a space to hold private events upstairs.
“We see it as a location that will bring people [to] the property for great coffee as well as be a neighborhood hangout ... and it will complement the Bunganut Pig,” said Warner.
It’s still too early in the renovation process for Fainting Goat to have an opening date, but the Allens hope to be serving coffee to Franklin sometime this winter. When they do open, Alex Allen says they will welcome anyone and everyone.
“Coffee is for everyone,” he said. “A ton of people are going to feel intimidated by the names, the ingredients, the place. … We wanted to make it fun and non-intimidating and enjoyable for everyone.”

An attempt to divide the city of Franklin may end up doing the exact opposite. Franklin's alderman said they are united at the expense of one of their own.
FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WTVF) — An attempt to divide the City of Franklin may end up doing the exact opposite.
That's what some city aldermen say they hope comes from the ongoing Gabrielle Hanson scandal in Williamson County after several of her colleagues confronted the Franklin alderman Tuesday night — especially about her association with white supremacists.
Franklin is a town that prides itself on telling the truth about the Civil War that divided a country, but Hanson calls her campaign for mayor "the new Battle of Franklin."
"What you see here in the last few months is not who we are, is not our city," Ward 1 Alderman Beverly Burger told NewsChannel 5 Investigates.
"I think it's a time for truth because there's a lot of lies, a lot of misinformation being told."
Burger and some of her colleagues are now speaking their truth about Hanson, publicly rebuking her during the last meeting of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen before city elections on Oct. 24.
"If this had not been an election time, I can guarantee you, Alderman Hanson, we would not be doing this — you would already have been censured by this board maybe multiple times," Burger told her colleague.
The most pointed comments during the board meeting involved the white supremacists who showed up at a candidates forum last week in a show of force for Hanson.
Hanson's reaction was to defiantly point the finger of blame back at her accusers.
"This is exactly the seeds that you sowed, and your harvest is now here," she responded.
The alderman, and now candidate for mayor, refused to denounce the hate group who said they were there at her request.
She compared being a white supremacist to being a lesbian or being Black.
"I'm not going to denounce anybody their right to be whatever it is that they want to be — whether I agree with what they do in their personal life or not," she said.
Beverly Burger's response: "This morning, my text messages were blowing up. People thanking me for my comments last night, and people very appalled that she would not denounce the hate group that appeared here at our public forum."
Burger has often voted on the same side as Hanson. For example, they both voted against allowing Pride Fest this year in a city park.
The difference, Burger said, is Hanson wants to demonize those who disagree with her.
"I was saddened by her words last night," Burger said.
Specifically, she cited Hanson's argument that "I just happened to arrive at a time when everything was starting to crumble."
"I didn't know Franklin was crumbling," Burger said. "I didn't think anyone outside this City Hall, our constituents, our citizens have ever told us they thought Franklin was crumbling."
During the board meeting, Burger asked her colleague: "Is it your mission to divide our city? Because you're doing a bang-up job of it right now."
And Burger wasn't alone in her condemnation.
"If it were allowed procedurally, I'd propose a censure tonight," said Ward 2 Alderman Matt Brown.
He specifically pointed to Hanson's response to NewsChannel 5's investigation, posting a screenshot from the hate group warning that "there is no political solution."
"Make no mistake: it is a call for violence," Brown said.
"Alderman Hanson may not have written that phrase, but her sharing it publicly — specifically including that screenshot — is proselytizing and advancing that call for violence."
Ward 3 Alderman Jason Potts agreed.
"We are a community that stands together against adversity. We will not be intimidated by you or those that wish to suppress our voices or negatively change our great city of Franklin," he told Hanson.
At-Large Alderman Brandy Blanton delivered the most Southern of jabs.
"I think we all are sort of still shaking our heads and asking how did we get here, and I look at you with your straight face — and bless your heart!"
Burger said that show of unity against Hanson is a good sign.
"Our board is so strong. We are going to make sure that our community hears us loud and clear," she added.
Like Franklin's historic square, Burger hopes Franklin eventually looks back to see this controversy as just another difficult chapter from its past.
Early voting is now underway. Election day is Oct. 24.
