How Does Botox Work?

Botox addresses the key factors behind the formation of frown lines, crow's feet, and forehead lines — the recurrent muscle contractions resulting from years of frowning, squinting, smiling, and raising eyebrows. Your injector will administer Botox injections to these muscles, leading to a temporary reduction in muscle activity. You'll start observing temporary improvements in the appearance of frown lines between your brows, crow's feet lines, and forehead lines.

Results and Expectations

Curious about the results? Envision a smoother, more rejuvenated version of yourself. Botox delivers noticeable results, with effects typically lasting several months. Full treatment results can be seen in 10-14 days. It is recommended to have treatments every three to four months to maintain results.

Embrace the confidence that comes with a revitalized appearance, knowing that our team is dedicated to achieving results that enhance your natural beauty.

Potential Side Effects

While Botox is generally considered a safe and effective cosmetic procedure, like any medical intervention, it can be associated with potential side effects. Most side effects are mild and temporary, resolving on their own within a few days to weeks. Common side effects include localized tenderness, swelling, and bruising at the injection site. These reactions are typically transient and can be managed with ice packs and over-the-counter pain relievers. Occasionally, patients may experience headaches, which usually subside within 24 to 48 hours.

Some individuals may also encounter temporary eyelid drooping or asymmetry, if the Botox spreads beyond the targeted muscles. While this is generally uncommon, it is essential to choose a skilled and experienced practitioner and follow post-procedure instructions to minimize such risks.

Botox Aftercare

After receiving a Botox treatment, it is important to follow specific guidelines provided by your provider. One of the primary recommendations is to avoid touching, rubbing, or applying pressure to the treated areas for at least a few hours after the procedure. This helps prevent the migration of the toxin to unintended areas and allows the Botox to settle into the targeted muscles.

Patients are also advised to refrain from strenuous physical activities and exercise for the first 24 hours post-treatment. Sweating and increased blood flow can potentially impact the distribution of the Botox, affecting its efficacy. Alcohol consumption and exposure to extreme heat, such as saunas or hot tubs, should be avoided during this initial period as well.

Additionally, it's crucial to remain upright for the first few hours after the treatment and avoid lying down. This precautionary measure helps prevent the unintentional spread of the Botox to adjacent muscles. It is recommended to sleep with your head elevated for the first night after the procedure.

Patients are encouraged to stay hydrated and consume a healthy diet rich in vitamins and minerals to support the healing process. Regular follow-up appointments with your provider are essential to monitor progress and address any concerns. Adhering to these aftercare guidelines enhances the overall effectiveness of the Botox treatment and contributes to a smoother, more successful outcome.

Aesthetic Treatments to Compliment Botox Results

In conjunction with Botox treatments, several complementary services and treatments can be employed to enhance and maintain optimal results. One popular option is dermal fillers, which work synergistically with Botox to address different aspects of facial aging. While Botox targets dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle contractions, dermal fillers, such as hyaluronic acid-based injectables, add volume to areas with static wrinkles and fine lines, providing a more comprehensive rejuvenation. This combination approach is often referred to as a "liquid facelift," producing a balanced and natural-looking outcome.

Additionally, incorporating regular skincare routines into the post-Botox maintenance plan is crucial for prolonging the results. High-quality skincare products containing ingredients like retinoids, antioxidants, and peptides can help improve skin texture, tone, and elasticity. These products contribute to overall skin health, supporting the longevity of Botox effects by promoting collagen production and minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Non-invasive procedures such as laser therapy and chemical peels can also be beneficial in exfoliating the skin's outer layer and promoting a smoother complexion, complementing the effects of Botox for a more youthful and radiant appearance. It is important to consult with your provider to tailor a personalized plan that combines these complementary treatments based on individual needs and desired outcomes.

Broken streetlights shine again in Brentwood neighborhood following WSMV4 investigation

“I don’t know what you did, I don’t know what you pushed, but Stacey, it was just like somebody flicked a switch.”

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (WSMV) - For close to three months, Andrew Rittler and several others living at the Tapestry at Brentwood Town Center Apartments say they complained to Nashville Electric Service and the City of Brentwood about more than 50 streetlights that stopped working in their neighborhood.

“Where the battle comes out for me is I just think it’s a basic service issue and a matter of safety,” Rittler said.

Just before Thanksgiving, Rittler and several of his neighbors turned to WSMV4 Investigates for help finding out why the lights were not working and getting the problem fixed.

So, we aired a report detailing the frustration and concerns of people like Mary Jo Freels, who told WSMV4 Investigates that, in the past few weeks, several people narrowly escaped getting hit by cars when crossing the street.

“It’s dark, very dark without the streetlights, and it’s become more problematic now that it gets dark earlier,” Freels said.

But several nights after WSMV4 Investigates revealed how the lights stopped working due to an old faulty cable and that NES and the City of Brentwood were figuring out how to fix it, Rittler says the streetlights lit back up.

“It was just boom! And everyone was so excited,” Rittler told WSMV4 investigative reporter Stacey Cameron. “I don’t know what you did, I don’t know what you pushed, but Stacey, it was just like somebody flicked a switch.”

Rittler says after months of fighting to get the lights working again, no one expected to see them light back up so quickly.

“Everybody was hunkered down for, okay, it’s going to be a couple more months,” Rittler said. “And to have it just come as a surprise is great.”

WSMV4 Investigates returned to the neighborhood to see the lights for ourselves and noticed five still not working on Centerview Drive. Rittler says that is not a big concern at this point.

“No one’s complaining that a couple are still out,” Rittler said. “The far majority, 85 to 90%, are fixed.”

In an email, the city tells WSMV4 Investigates it hired a contractor to fix the faulty cable, and they are now working with that contractor and NES to assess and repair the handful of lights that are still out.

While Rittler’s glad to see neighborhood sidewalks are safely lit again, he says NES and the city should have explained the problem better.

“The thing that we are all looking for is accountability and transparency,” Rittler said. “You kind of hate being the squeaky wheel. But sometimes the squeaky wheel does get grease.”

America's pickleball fascination continues, with yet another new Brentwood facility planned around the sporting phenomenon.

This one, Crush Yard, will soon sign a lease on a 33,000-square-foot space at Brentwood Place on Franklin Road, near Golf Galaxy, Total Wine, Fresh Market and Chick-fil-A. The target opening date is January 2025.

Crush Yard is a pickleball club, but it's also an expansive bar and restaurant that draws on the star power of executive chef Brandon Buck. Buck, a Charleston, South Carolina, native and former executive chef of Middleton Place, will design a menu of what Crush Yard chief marketing officer Andrew Ladden described as "elevated comfort food."

The pickleball venue should be massive, with room for eight courts, a full bar and a lower and mezzanine dining area with seating for 460 people.

It takes high ceilings and plenty of square footage to house the Crush Yard concept, which is why the swiftly growing company is looking to snap up failed grocery and big box stores for new franchise and corporate-owned locations.

The Nashville area should be the site of the third Crush Yard, but the company is in aggressive expansion mode, with a goal of 10 corporate-owned and 20 franchise locations, Ladden said.

"We love the idea of having indoor pickleball available every day of the year," he said.

Deal gone sour?Pickleball partnership turns sour between Brentwood, Williamson County

Such swift expansion for a business based on a sporting fad begs the question: What happens if people tire of pickleball? Ladden said this is not, in fact, a passing fad.

"It's definitely one of the conversations we had early on in deciding whether we wanted to commit to this," Ladden said. "But we're pretty darn convinced that pickleball ain't going anywhere."

In 2021, pickleball enthralled nearly 5 million players in the U.S., according to the 2022 Sports & Fitness Industry Association.

Add to that the fact that the U.S. has a pickleball court shortage, Ladden said, and you have a recipe for demand. The climate-controlled nature of Crush Yard only sweetens the deal.

"The vast majority of pickleball courts are outdoors, and subject to wind, rain and cold, so indoor courts are a real draw for us," he said.

More to come:Pickleball not souring: What to know about five new locations coming to Nashville

Ladden credited pickleball's ease of access for its massive popularity spike.

"It's not like golf or tennis where you stink for a year before you're good," he said. "You quickly feel a sense of accomplishment."

Not for nothing, hitting the ball also makes a satisfying noise, he said.

"It's a visceral feeling when that plastic ball hits the paddle," he said. "It's the greatest feeling in the world. You feel like you're making such great contact with the ball and, in five or six minutes, you're like, 'That's it, I'm in.'"

Crush Yard will open daily at 11 a.m. and stay open late, until 10 or 11 p.m., depending on the day.
